3 Style Area Cup -Day 3

Sigri Surf Center

Even though the forecast was not the best for the day, the first possible start was scheduled for 9.30 am to try and finish the second double elimination. A few riders were really praying for the wind, to give them the chance to fight back, to make up a position or two in the overall rankings.During the day we had to jump from one announcement to the other with no change in the weather situation. The organisers believed the uncharacteristic heavy thunderstorms in the early morning were the main reason that the wind never really appeared.

However, the riders enjoyed a relaxed day at the Sigri Surf Center catching up with their friends and family at home while they were waiting for the last possibly start. Whilst everybody seemed to be motivated to finish the double, race director Tom Hartmann had to call it a day at around four o'clock in the afternoon as he couldn't see the conditions improving. Therefor the results remain the same, with some sailors a little gutted to not have the chance to compete again.

The EFPT would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all of the competitors for their motivation and will to always show their best. We'd like to mention some very young riders who  really stepped it up at there first international competition. Amongst them, two young riders from Germany, Korbinian 'Korbi' Obermeyer (F2) and Michi 'The Krumm' Krumm (North/Fanatic) who showed a certain amount of nerves before their first heat. As the contest was progressing the two of them became more and more confident, landing pretty much all the maneuvers of their repertoire safely. Sailing against a very strong fleet they have definitely shown their best flaka variations, spock 540's, esliders, funnels, and even nice bobs from Korbinian Obermeyer.

We have to highlight Valentin Böckler (Starboard) and Marco Lufen (JP/Neilpryde) from Germany, who really showed exceptional talent as they passed a number of heats to make their final position. They passed through a lot of heats but were eventually stopped. They now leave with the motivation and commitment to come back stronger for EFPT France.

At 6 pm the prize giving ceremony began at the Sigri Surf Center. For the last time all the riders came together to find out the final results of the '3 Style Area Cup'. Race director Tom Hartmann announced the places and handed over the prize money. After a nice speech from Tom and the Mayor of Sigri, who declared the event as a big success, the trophies were given to the top three riders on the Red Bull podium. Fellow competitors cheered on as Adrian Beholz (Fanatic) claimed 3rd, Youp Schmit (JP/Neilpryde), from Bonaire who is now riding for the Netherlands  took 2nd and in 1st place the Dutch rider Davy Scheffers.

We'd like to congratulate all the riders, who were participating, for their results and also the organisers of the '3 Style Area Cup' Martina and Marcel Simon (owners of the Sigri Surf Center) for an amazing first event! They did everything possible to make the riders, the EFPT crew and, of course, their guests feel as comfortable as possible at their little paradise. The event really caught the eye of the windsurfing world and we look forward to re-creating the same in France soon.

Thanks again to everybody who was involved and hopefully see you soon back at the Sigri Surf Center!
