Another windy month flew by, and as always, riders have been sharing their progress online. In our monthly feature we put together the best freestyle windsurfing action clips of July for your viewing pleasure. This time we will witness new moves, quality cinematography, foilstyle madness and the top ladies in action! Let’s jump right in!
Eventhough Yentel Caers (JP/NeilPryde) is a regular on this feature, he couldn’t stop himself from once again raising the bar. With a new move and some scary yet controlled air moves, the Belgian, who is currently second in the Freestyle Pro Tour rankings, shows us he is the one to beat in strong winds:
We’re sure current tour leader Jacopo Testa (AV-Boards/Point-7) broke some sweat when watching that…
Another rider who has been constantly upping the game, seemingly on his own, is Balz Müller (Severne). The Swiss rider and foiling expert released a new clip with a host of moves we’re not even sure our judges would be able to name. This clip is the embodiment of true (foil)freestyle:
Still, most freestylers enjoy strong wind and flat water on the fin the most. Oda Johanne Brodholt (Starboard/Severne) travelled down to what is arguably the best spot for this in the world – Dakhla in Marocco. Take a look at some quality action from the Norwegian:
Will she be challenging for a European or World title soon? Who knows…
A rider who we’d also love to see back on the competition scene is Alex Mertens (Fanatic/Duotone). The American based freestyler has been working on a passion project of his which zooms in on the very concept of passion. With a slightly ambiguous message, open to the viewers interpretation, the video shows some massive moves:
We caught up with Alex in an interview about the video. You can read about his passion for freestyle and filmmaking HERE.
Also oozing with passion and stoke is Aruban Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard/NeilPryde/MUF). The countless champion released a video from her time in Brasil, where she shows off endless Skopu’s. In her own words: “How many skopus can you count in this video?”. See for yourself:
And although she clearly tries to trick us with one Kabikuchi thrown into the mix as well (in the end we counted 7 Skopu’s), it is obvious that the conditions were perfect for some power moves.
That’s it for this month! And if you’re wondering where the videos from Fuerteventura are: all the riders there are probably still on the water… Join us in next months feature to see the Fuerte Freestyle Festival! And if you have any suggestions for videos that need to be featured, feel free to contact us!
