With high hopes for the thermal wind to one more time spoil the coastline with sailable conditions we started the day with the first possible start at 2.00pm. The sailors were all ready and highly motivated to continue with the double elimination that we started yesterday in the early afternoon. To everybodys disappointment the wind didn’t improve throughout the day though and left the crew and the fleet on stand-by and 30 minute announcements until 7.00pm when the race directory decided to call it off.
The result of the single elimination therefor remains as an end result for the 5th Milos Beach Lefkada Freestyle Open. Once again Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP/Neilpryde) from Belgium could dominate this strong fleet. Second placed Hugo de Sousa who performed on a very high level also proved his potential of finishing in a top position overall this year. Adrien Bosson (North/Fanatic) who ended up in third place at this event is very keen to fight for the European title and already confirmed his participation in all of the EFPT contests this year. With four more events this season the chase for the title will stay exciting and we are looking forwards to many more tour-stops with good conditions and a lot of action on the water. You can find the whole result here.
After a very nice ceremony yesterday night where all the sponsors and local politicians were involved and the riders and the EFPT were awarded for their participation and the promotion of the island respectively, the final prize-giving this evening was a very social but quiet happening.
The next EFPT stop will be staged at Costa Teguise, Lanzarote where once again former EFPT champion Antxon Otaegui is organising the event. The pre-registration list already contains most of the riders of the EFPT Milos Beach plus some high level additions like Amado Vrieswijk (JP/Severne), Tonky Frans and Philip Soltysiak (Starboard) just to name a few. We are looking forwards to this event and hope for an even bigger number of sailors and for the conditions that Lanzarote is famous for to present und promote freestyle windsurfing on the highest possible level.
