UTOPIA 1 – Raphael Bauer’s new windsurf travel series

January 11th, 2024

Every year the freestyle world sees the same migration. Like breeding birds, many leave Europe to fly to warmer and windier climates. One of the most popular destinations is Jericoacoara in Brazil. Raphael Bauer (Starboard/Severne), a young french freestyler made the trip as well and decided to share his travels with the rest of the community. In “UTOPIA”, his new travel series, he shows the viewer around Jeri and shares his thoughts and reflections on his current lifestyle. The FPT caught up with Raphael to speak about the project, so after watching the video make sure to check out the interview below!

FPT: Hi Raph! What a video! Tell us a bit more about your idea for “UTOPIA”.
Raphael: The aim of UTOPIA is to convey what I see and feel on my travels. This year, I decided to set up my own production company to work as a professional, but also to work on projects that I love. During my year-long trip, I decided to create this UTOPIA series. Basically, I was making videos to show my family, because that’s what I like. I wanted to share with my family and friends and make them travel through me, but I decided to step it up and to put more effort into showing it to as many people as possible.

FPT: It’s going to be a series? What’s next, where will the next episodes be?
Raphael: Yes! UTOPIA will be a 3-part series in 2024. For part two, I’ve invested in new equipment that should make the video even more sublime. I don’t want to reveal where the other two parts will take place, but if I can give a hint: “I’m traveling a little lighter :)”. Stay tuned 🙂

FPT: We can’t wait! So for now we look back on the first episode: Jeri looks like a dream, would you recommend it for freestyle?
Raphael: Jeri is a paradise for me! But I wouldn’t recommend it specifically just for freestylers, but for lovers of culture and good times. It’s a good spot, but we have similar spots in Europe. But if you want to get out of the cold of winter and into the warmth of the sea, this is the place to be.

Jeri has a lot more on offer than just sublime windsurfing conditions

FPT: Great! Any plans for competition in 2024 as well?
Raphael: 2024 is a pivotal year for me. I love what I do and I hope to be able to do it for as long as possible, but sometimes you have to juggle work and passion. As far as windsurfing is concerned, and in particular competitions, I’ll definitely continue, but above all I want to show that our sport is a visual art and that nothing beats a session with friends.

FPT: Thanks so much Raphael, we are looking forward to more of your videos!
