Virtual competition time

June 5th, 2021

Since running an on site competition in 2021 still remains somewhat tricky for many locations, despite the perfect launch the EFPT had at the Surf Opening in Austria earlier this year, we wanted to bring some virtual action to you. George Grisley of the ‚Supergusty Podcast‘ has extensively collected rider and heat stats and the EFPT have decide to collaborate to host a virtual freestyle competition on the EFPT social media channels: Instagram and Facebook.

After the huge disappointment of the EFPT in Vieste being moved to 2022 due to ongoing restrictions and the economic consequences of the pandemic, the dates for the first virtual EFPT competition on will be the postponed dates of the EFPT Vieste: the 15th – 19th of June 2021.

The format will be a dingle elimination for the competitors who wanted to compete in Vieste, or have already competed in Austria. Every ‚heat‘ will be online on the EFPT Instagram and Facebook channels (Insta: @efptour | FB: @EFPT1 ), the fans will have their chance to vote and so in the end a winner will be crowned. You, the fans can also suggest wildcards for this event, with two wildcard slots open for the mens and one for the women. So do you know someone who you’d like to see compete, or you want to be involved yourself, here’s a chance to get noticed. Follow the stories on the social channels to submit your wildcard nominees, followed the next day by voting. This will all be kicking off on the 8th June.

EFPT Vieste, this year only virtual

If you want to get a general idea of how it’s going to work please have a look at the Supergusty Podcast instagram page (@supergustypodcast) and click on the story-highlight ‚Vietnam‘.

Whilst we understand that this cannot replace real windsurfing competition, we do hope this format offers the chance for windsurf fanatics worldwide to feed the appetite whilst we await for our next event on the calendar to get underway. The EFPT’s aims are to fulfill existing event dates with activity during this unpredictable season, so you can expect to see similar action taking place during the Lanzarote event dates also. Our intentions go further, to a full online competition with rider submitted heats later in the season should the need arise.

We are looking forward to bring together the freestyle windsurfing world, even if it’s only online for now and can’t wait to boost the interaction with all of our followers. We’ll see you at our virtual event-site!
