What to expect at the FPT King and Queen of the Caribbean?

April 7th, 2023

Registration is completed for the 2023 FPT King and Queen of the Caribbean! With 24 entrants the event is set to be a mix and match between local and international freestyle talent. Starting on April 7th, the competition will run for 4 days at The Frans Paradise on Bonaire. Steven van Broeckhoven (Starboard/Gunsails), Yentel Caers (JP/NeilPryde) and Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard/NeilPryde/Maui Ultra Fins) are entering among many other big names. Up and coming riders Lennart Neubauer (Starboard/Severne/Maui Ultra Fins), Bodhi Kempen (Severne), Tigo Kort (JP/NeilPryde) and Tim Gerdes (Severne) are also here to see how they match up against Bonaire’s local talent like Nigel Hart (FutureFly/Point-7) and Bimbi Clappers (Tabou/Gaastra). Check out the elimination ladders below to see who will be contending for the €2500 Proving Grounds Series Prize Fund!

Apart from the local and established international comeptition scene, the event also has a strong Polish representation. Pawel Palichleb (Fanatic/Duotone), Pawel Kazmierczak (Starboard/Severne), Robert Sosnowski (JP/Severne) and Maarten Molenaar (Starboard/Gunsails/Maui Ultra Fins) are all at the very beginning of their competitive freestyle career, but seem hungry to claim their place int he ranks. Furthermore, the neighbouring island of Curacao is also represented by the likes of Ryan Richie, Faan Coenen en Sjoerd de Koning. Historically, Curacao is also known for their impressive freestyle talent, so let’s see how these youngsters fare in this mix. Finally, Leander Halm (Starboard/Severne) is the youngest competitor to enter. Despite his age, he can definitely cause some damage, as in the previous edition of the King of the Caribbean, he managed to beat some significantly older riders.

The event will also host a couple of Super Sessions when the wind allows. Still to be determined, but we can expect a Best Forward Loop, Longest Air Jibe slide, Best Shove-it and a couple other expression sessions over the next few days.

Kuma Movie is also present at the event, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for his uploads with all the raw action from the water!
