After a great start to the competition season, the windsurf scene is back to normal again. Right before the Surf Opening in Austria started, many riders were still releasing action clips. In our monthly Freestyle Action Roundup feature, we have put them all together for you to enjoy. This month we will cover training in Cape Town, exploring new spots and a vlog by a very promising freestyle windsurfer. Let’s get into it!
First up is EFPT Austria event winner Maaike Huvermann (Severne/MUF). The dutchie produced a video exploring some unconventional spots around her home country. Filmmaker Sean Benney manned the camera and the following video with breathtaking scenery emerged:
Windmills and windsurfing, what better combination could one have? Read our short interview with Maaike about the project HERE.
In the meantime the last training clips from the winter break were also posted in April. Cape Town, a location ever favourable among freestyle windsurfers, was the training ground of choice for current vice-world champion Adrien Bosson (Fanatic/Duotone/MUF). A combination of powerful moves, FPV drone shots and a sick edit is the perfect mixture for one of the best video parts so far this year:
The keen eye would have also noticed the insanely technical combo moves at the end of the video, hidden away like a gem. Another rider who went down south to get his technique to another level is Israeli Dudu Levi (Starboard/Gun Sails). Rumour has it that his best combo’s, some apparently never seen before, did not even make it into this video…
Amazing vibes from the moustache man. Taking a very serious training approach as well was Swedish Primus Sörling (Starboard/Severne). The youngster has been steadily improving since we last saw him compete at our Juniors event in Theologos. In this video he is even landing his first double moves on the shores of Fuerteventura!
With a tasty crash section, a pumping soundtrack and some cameos from local riders this is a video one shouldn’t miss! Worth checking out as well is a short but sweet session from Leucate by a regular on this feature: Yentel Caers (JP/NeilPryde). The Belgian does what we expect of him – he goes massive.
On the other end of the video length spectrum is Felix Volkhardt (Severne/MUF). The winner of last years most improved rider award has taken to creating a vlog together with Severne teammate Lina Erpenstein. Exploring the same regions as Yentel, they enjoy some glassy flat water:
Was that the mysterious voice of Aircamp at the beginning!? And we must say, Lina rips! We’d love to see her competing at one of our freestyle events! Ripping on the other side of Europe as well are Salome and Nascimo Fournier (Sailloft). The two travelled to Karpathos in the summer of 2021 and released an action clip from their trip this month:
Impressive progress from the two! Just like with Lina, we’d love to see them compete! And speaking of competition, the last video in this month’s roundup has to be the Event Recap from our season opener. The 2022 EFPT Surf Opening in Austria was a great success with Jacopo Testa (AV-Boards/Point-7) and Maaike Huvermann (Severne/MUF) taking the win, check out all the action:
That’s it for this month! Make sure to tune in again for the best clips from May. If you know of any sick freestyle clips that should be featured in the next edition, feel free to send them to us.
